Assumptions are a very dangerous thing. This should be required viewing by anyone who is even remotely tempted to work anywhere near, let alone at a school.
I'm so glad you started posting again! I've been reading your journal for a long time and I really missed it. :o)
Blessed be for posting that video. Both of my youngest children have autism, though not to the degree of severity with which that young woman does, and we have been blessed to receive fantastic help and counseling via the school system. The psychologist who came to our home to evaluate my daughter told me it isn't about not learning, autistic children just learn differently, and we have to create a program that helps them learn in the way that they naturally do, not try to force them to conform or write them off (which I wouldn't do anyway).
This program has worked wonders with my son and I expect good things for my daughter too.
People just do not not understand autism and think that those ho have it are unreachable.
Thank you for showing this film as proof that they are not.
Why thanks, I'm glad to be back. RL is a pain in the ass sometimes. LOL
I work for a case management agency and to show the level of idiocy surrounding understanding of autism: Under the state regulations, autism and mental retardation are glumped under the same category for criteria and services. They are completely different Axis levels in the DSM IV, but that doesn't seem to make much difference to people.
