I am a pretty firm feminist. Not to the point of rabid, men need to learn to keep their place which is subservient to wymyn kind of feminism. But I do think that women still have an uphill battle in today's culture. We still earn about 75 cents on the dollar against men in the same field, crimes against women such as rape and domestic violence are still less likely to be procecuted or prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. So when I see a woman doing "the cause" a damage, it worries me. Like this...
"Marshall and Kim Mathers were married tonight in a small, private ceremony at Meadow Brook Hall in Rochester, Mich.," the rapper's rep, Dennis Dennehy, told PEOPLE. "Family and close friends were in attendance, including members of D-12, 50 Cent, Obie Trice, and members of G-Unit. D-12 rapper Proof (real name: DeShaun Holton) was best man."
The reason this bothers me is because of this...
"Eminem's wife filed for divorce after the rapper rhymed about killing her on his latest album. The song "Kim" included lyrics like "Sit down bitch/you move again/I'll beat the shit out of you." Can't imagine that "KIM -- ROT IN PIECES" tattoo on his torso helps, either. Though Eminem never followed up on his threatening lyrics, Kim did attempt suicide in July." (from Salon.com
I come from an abusive household. My mother is still in one. Why the hell any woman with an ounce of common sense, self-respect or sense or self-preservation, once she was out, would go back into a situation like that is beyond me, but it sends a frightening message. My uneducated, outsider interpretation of this scenario is that she either doesn't have any kind of support system or she didn't get enough or the right kind of therapy after she left.
It isn't just that he was physically abusive to her (which was horrible enough), he also publicly humiliated her on many occasions. The incident that caused her to attempt suicide was one in their home town. He invited her to his concert under the pretense of reciliation, then made disgusting comments about her to the audience and passed around a blow-up doll.
Like you, I have a difficult time understanding this woman's motivation.
Of course, the possiblilty does exist that she is extraordinarily stupid...
Yeesh.
BTW, you have a beautiful journal. I've been reading it for a few weeks now. Your recent comments about Pat Roberson were completely right on. :o)
Wow...just when I thought I was as disgusted as I could possibly get by this guy. I am shocked and appauled that any women anywhere would even listen to his music, let alone buy it, thereby supporting and endorsing this behavior.
