"PORTLAND, Oregon (AP) -- A bankruptcy judge ruled Friday that the Archdiocese of Portland, not its parishes, owns church assets, dealing a major blow to its efforts to protect church property from lawsuits filed by alleged victims of priest sex abuse."
Ok, at the risk of offending Judy, this SOOOOOOO needed to happen. Cause this is going to come up quite a lot in the future and before the Archdiocese of Boston gets to this point this precedent needs to be established. I mean come on. How is this not just like funneling your cash to a numbered bank account in the Caymans so the future ex can't get it in the divorce?
The Church brought this whole thing on itself by not taking responsibility for these preists in the first place. Instead of pulling them immediately they sent them to New Mexico (I think) for "the cure" and then shipped them right back out again. We've all seen the records. It's no secret what they allowed to happen. What they facilitated in happening. It's coming back to bite them in the ass and they're trying to, once again, avoid responsibility for it.
Obviously, they've learned nothing from this whole experience. As the Three-Fold Law tells us, whatever energy you put out in the world is returned upon you threefold. They fucked their people, both literally and figuratively, and now it's time to cowboy up. Or do the penance if you'd rather.
It's actually rather poetic, if you think about it.
