Bad New York, BAD!

Members of the Pagan Cluster were arrested today at Herald Square, in
Manhattan, NYC. They were doing a peaceful direct action/civil
disobedience, along with other groups, at a major point of entry for
delegates to the Republican Nat'l Con. Their focus was peace in Iraq.
All 13 of the Pagan Cluster were arrested, shortly after 7 pm local
time. Details are sketchy, but from what can be gathered, all are
reasonably well.

You -- yes you -- can be a crucial support to our friends. Please
call and send emails to NYC officials, asking for their release, and
the release of all those arrested in RNC actions. Let's flood 'em.
Time is of the essence, please do it as soon as you can. It's an
important contribution from those of us who have not been able to go
to New York, but still want our voices to be heard.

Caveat: do NOT mention anyone by name. They are not giving their
names to the police at this point, so help them keep their anonymity.

Here are those NYC contacts. Thank you for your help!

blessings,
Mer

Um. One question. If we are to write, call, e-mail or otherwise alert the police and ask for their release, how can we do this without identifying them? I understand that over 1,000 people were arrested yesterday. How can we help?

Hey Will, I think what they're asking for is a general request for justice for the protesters. They are trying to keep the individuals anonymous but the people as a group and the causes they represented in their protests and acts of civil disobedience are the symbols to rally behind. As it were.

So they are asking that we contact the people/organizations listed and request that their civil rights not be violated. Just the fact that we are letting them know that we know what's going on sometimes is enough to keep the victims safe.

Kimber; one of my friends who, luckily didn't get arrested, sent me the following link; supposedly a leaked NYPD memo asking that all "foreign (i.e. Non-Manhattan)" protesters be identified.

Grim if it's real ...have no reason to suspect otherwise.
