Today I will be quoting heavily from the Physicians for Social Responsibility as they say much of what I believe much more coherently than I ever could.
They are speaking on Military-style Assault Rifles. AKA "how many bullest can I possibly fire in one second" guns. First off...If you need that many rounds to hit the target...maybe target shooting isn't for you!!!!!!! Secondly...If you fire that many rounds into a deer, you will be picking more metal than meat out of your teeth!!! Now I live in Maine and I was raised by a hunter in Illinois. I know that there are some folks who still rely on hunting for their food supply and that's fine. The Circle of Life includes the food chain. I'm not a vegitarian, I eat meat. But my dad used to hunt everything from squirrels and ducks to deer with a .22 and he did just fine. He had 2 rifles and one shotgun hanging on the gunrack in his room. And we always had plenty of fresh meat. CAVEMEN used to kill MASTADONS with POINTED STICKS!!!!! There is ABSOLUTELY NO JUSTIFICATION FOR AUTOMATIC WEAPONS!!!!!!!! Let alone military-style assault rifles. It's just stupidity to argue otherwise. (My blog, my perogative. ;oD)
Our president (and I use the term loosely) is allowing his stooges in the congress (also used loosely) to end the existing ban on these types of weapons. "In fact, the Bush Administration seems content to sit quietly on the sidelines while Republican leaders in Congress block legislation that would extend the assault weapons ban beyond its 'sunset' date of September 13, 2004."
Now there isn't much doubt that I think GW is mentally ill at best and malignent at worst. In view of recent events, this being one and the "Throwing George Tenent to the wolves" episode this week, I flat out call this man a coward!!!!! A craven little coward!!!! Letting his flunkies take the falls and do his dirty work for him while he sits back and spouts Bushisms at the rest of the world trying to keep his "Good Ol' Boy" image afloat. To quote the PSR "From his belligerent foreign policy, reckless pursuit of and eagerness to use nuclear weapons, and repeated attacks on the environment..." I feel this man is the single most dangerous human (used loosely) on the planet!!! Public enemy #1!!!
And right behind him is the NRA!!! Before GW was elected the Vice President of the NRA said they would be working right out of the White House and that does indeed seem to be the case. "The National Rifle Association, Gun Owners of America, and a shadowy group known as the 'National Shooting Sports Foundation' are working to keep legislation to extend the assault weapons ban bottled up in Congress. And they are getting plenty of help from House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, a long-time ally of the NRA and avowed opponent of all gun safety laws.
With blatant disregard for public opinion and your safety, DeLay is doing more than living up to his name. He isn't delaying a vote on this critical legislation - he is outright refusing to let the bill even come up for debate in the House of Representatives, let alone be voted upon"
Am I the only one who thinks this is just INSANITY!?!?!?! I challenge GW, our great Praying President, to take a good look at the 6th commandment and explain why we need guns.
